Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition of the central face that causes flushing, persistent redness, visible small blood vessels (telangiectasia) and, in some people, red bumps and pustules. At Yaan Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, we are an aesthetic clinic, not a dermatology specialist clinic: we do not diagnose or medically treat rosacea, but facial redness and visible vessels are areas where our vascular laser treatments can genuinely help.
Good to know: Rosacea should be diagnosed by a board-certified dermatologist, who can rule out look-alike conditions and prescribe treatments such as topical ivermectin, metronidazole, azelaic acid, brimonidine or oral doxycycline. Vascular lasers address visible redness and vessels; they do not cure rosacea.
What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a common, relapsing condition that mainly affects the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. It tends to begin after age 30, comes and goes in flares, and is often first noticed as blushing or flushing more easily than other people.
Its exact cause is not fully understood. Researchers link it to an overreactive immune response, blood vessel sensitivity, skin mites called Demodex, and genetics. It is often mistaken for acne, sensitive skin or sunburn.
What are the types of rosacea?
Doctors now describe rosacea by its features rather than strict subtypes. The main features are flushing and persistent redness, visible vessels, bumps and pustules, skin thickening (especially on the nose) and eye symptoms.
| Feature | What you notice | Typical medical approach | Role of vascular laser |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flushing, persistent redness | Red cheeks and nose, heat sensation | Trigger control, topical medicines | Often helpful for background redness |
| Visible vessels | Fine red lines on cheeks and nose | Often referred for laser | Main use |
| Bumps and pustules | Acne-like spots without blackheads | Prescription topical or oral treatment | Limited; medical treatment first |
| Thickened skin (phymatous) | Enlarged, bumpy nose | Dermatologist or surgeon | Not a Yaan treatment |
| Eye (ocular) rosacea | Dry, gritty, red eyes | Ophthalmologist | Not applicable |
What triggers rosacea flares?
Common triggers include sun exposure, heat, hot drinks, spicy food, alcohol, intense exercise, stress, wind and cold, and harsh skin care. Triggers vary from person to person, so a simple diary helps.
Travel to Seoul can bring several at once: hot, humid summers, cold dry winters, Korean barbecue and spicy dishes, and the temptation to try many new skin care products. Saunas and jjimjilbang bathhouses are another classic trigger.
When should you see a dermatologist for rosacea?
See a board-certified dermatologist if you have persistent facial redness, bumps that do not respond to acne products, burning or stinging skin, a thickening nose, or eye irritation. A correct diagnosis matters, because acne, seborrheic dermatitis, lupus and steroid-induced redness can look similar.
Avoid using steroid creams on your face unless a doctor prescribes them, as they can worsen rosacea over time. If your eyes are affected, see an eye doctor.
How can vascular lasers help rosacea redness at Yaan Clinic?
Vascular lasers deliver light absorbed by hemoglobin in blood vessels, gently heating and shrinking visible vessels and reducing background redness. At Yaan Clinic, the V laser is used for redness and vascular concerns, usually within our Personal Brightening program.
- V laser – Yaan describes it as a hemoglobin-targeting laser with 532 nm KTP and 1064 nm wavelengths and Genesis modes, with KFDA, FDA and CE clearance. Genesis mode warms the skin to around 40–43°C.
- Personal Brightening – a customized combination of V laser, Pico laser and LDM Recovery Therapy. In Yaan's FAQ, the V laser addresses redness and vessels, while Pico addresses pigment; the V laser is not always needed.
- Sapphire cooling – a four-stage cooling system is used for comfort.
- Recovery – Yaan states patients can return to daily activities immediately after Personal Brightening.
Yaan's FAQ notes that sensitive skin can be treated with adjusted settings. Your doctor will decide energy and number of sessions after examining your skin; these are not fixed in advance. Lasers can reduce redness, but rosacea can return, so maintenance and trigger control remain important.
Are other aesthetic treatments safe with rosacea?
Many aesthetic treatments are possible with rosacea, but they should be scheduled when the skin is calm. Strong heat, aggressive peels or needling during a flare can make redness worse.
- Potenza RF microneedling – Yaan lists redness and rosacea among Potenza's targets; it is not suitable during an active flare, and your doctor will judge whether it fits your skin.
- Rejuran Healer – a polynucleotide skin booster Yaan lists for redness and sensitive or damaged skin.
- HydraFacial – can be combined with V laser; some people with very reactive rosacea prefer to skip exfoliation steps, so mention your diagnosis.
For international patients: Avoid saunas, alcohol and strong sun on treatment days. Pack a gentle moisturizer and mineral sunscreen, and bring the names of any rosacea creams you use. Our first visit guide explains what happens at your consultation.

Frequently asked questions
Can Yaan Clinic diagnose or cure my rosacea?
No. Yaan Clinic is an aesthetic clinic. Rosacea should be diagnosed and medically managed by a board-certified dermatologist. Yaan's vascular laser treatments can reduce visible redness and small blood vessels, but rosacea is a chronic condition and can return, so medical care and trigger control remain important.
Which laser does Yaan use for facial redness?
Yaan uses the V laser, a hemoglobin-targeting laser with 532 nm and 1064 nm wavelengths and Genesis modes, typically as part of Personal Brightening. Personal Brightening combines V laser, Pico laser and LDM Recovery Therapy, adjusted to your skin.
Is there downtime after V laser for redness?
Yaan states patients can return to daily activities immediately after Personal Brightening. Some people notice mild warmth or pinkness for a short time. Avoid saunas, alcohol and strong sun afterwards, and your doctor will give you specific aftercare advice.
How many laser sessions are needed for rosacea redness?
Yaan Clinic does not publish a fixed number of sessions. Redness and vessels usually improve over a series of treatments, and many people need occasional maintenance. Your doctor will suggest a plan after a 3D Meta-Vu skin analysis.
Can I get Potenza if I have rosacea?
Yaan lists redness and rosacea among Potenza's targets, but microneedling is not done during an active flare and may not suit every rosacea patient. Your doctor will assess your skin and may suggest starting with vascular laser instead.
